We Are The Champions

So. . .
-

. . .I gotta call yesterday.

-
-

It was Tom.

-

-
-
"Wanna step out tonight?"
Mmmmm. Let me think about it.

YEAH!

Tom found a single screening of the Queen + Paul Roger's Let the Cosmos Rock - Ukraine show at a movie theatre in Columbia. (doesn't "theatre" make you feel much more sophisticated than "theater"??)

See, Queen was touring Europe right behind us. Every time we got to a big city, we'd find Queen signs all over announcing that they were coming soon. Queen is Tom's favorite rock group from back in the day. He saw the live show back in the '70's and again in the late '90's or so when they got back together, sans Freddy, plus Paul Rogers.

Of course, we called Patti to come meet us at Wild Wings for dinner. It just happened to be during the "Steve Spurrier Call-In Show."
-
How 'bout those gamecocks!!
-
Eva & I were snuggling quite comfortably when suddenly someone tapped on her shoulder.
-
She has a love/hate relationship with Cocky. She loves him from afar and is quite frightened of him at close range.

But she had
blankie - &
Pookie,
she was OK.

We soon had to kiss them goodbye, with our piggy little bellies full of wings.

Queen was awesome. Freddy's presence was powerful, hovering over the entire event. It was touching. Freddy's been gone a long, long time, yet these guys will still bring you to tears remembering Freddy. And they seem on the verge of tears, themselves.
-
So I'm not such a big Queen fan, but I'm crazy about a couple of their songs. Before the show, Tom had to give me some information to bring me up to speed. First, he says, Roger Taylor's the drummer & he's the blonde one. OK. Well maybe 30 years ago he was "the blonde one," but last night there were NO blonde ones. Lots of gray ones, no blondes. Last night, I saw grandpas up there doing moves I haven't been able to do for five years. Little known fact: In Roger's first band, he played the ukulele. Maybe that explains why he is so massively tough on the drums, just trying to overcome that wimpy ukulele image.
-
Not that ukulele's are wimpy.... don't flood me with hate emails.
-
Back to the concert. Brian May had this endless guitar solo that was probably record-setting. I hate a screaming guitar, but for those of you who love it, he might be the best. So Tom told me Brian plays a guitar -- "The Red Special" -- that he and his father made while he was in high school. Did you know, Tom, they made it partly from a fireplace & that it is so special, Brian one time bought a passenger seat on the airplane just for The Red Special? I imagine by now, they fly on private planes though.
-
Paul Rogers joined Queen a few years back. He's a cutie. I mean, I heard some girls say that he's a cutie. OK, I mean, if I wasn't married to the major cutie, I'd think Paul Rogers was a cutie.
-
Now for the sad part. I missed Bohemian Rhapsody. I went to the stinkin' bathroom during Bohemian Rhapsody. Life has always been pretty good for me. There isn't much that happens to me that I feel is "unfair." But this was unfair. I spent hours listening to music, much of which I don't like & then I miss my favorite part. The song in which my children know every single word. Almost the only song we sing as a Family Sing A Long. The song in which I ROCK on the high notes.
-
So the concert finally ends and we all (9) leave the theatre. Half of us (4) are old and half (5) are youngsters. One of the pony-tailed youngsters sighs, "Dude. I don't think rock is dead, I think it's just in a slump."
-
No, Dude, Rock isn't dead, it's just old. And tired, so tired. OK, sleepy, too, with achy joints and hair in strange places.

-
can you see the "blonde" drummer in the back?
