Tenth Avenue North

Click here for a music video from Tenth Avenue North.

More than a decade ago, two young men, Mike Donehey & Jason Jamison, both raised in the church, both musically inclined, met at Palm Beach Atlantic College. They moved into student housing off of Tenth Avenue North in West Palm Beach, FL, and, in a stroke of genius or maybe just haphazard luck, adopted that street name for their band. Tenth Avenue North. I can just see them shrugging, “Why not?” & giving each other a high five and a drawn-out “dude” for their new endeavor.

Many years & many band members come & gone, Jeff Owen joined them on electric guitar and vocals and Scott Sanders jumped in on bass. ….errr… teleported in.

The band’s goal?

“What we're hoping for with this music that we're making is to not
just entertain people. I think it's safe to say that we already have plenty of that. What we're wanting is to see people encounter truth. Remember, we all worked at a church for some time, and there we saw plenty of emotion. We saw plenty of people having a good time, but it wasn't long until we realized that if emotion isn't being evoked by truth, well, then it just doesn't last. And we want this love in hearts to last. I guess you could say we're done just trying to get emotional from blast beats and hip guitar lyrics. Instead, we desire to be cut to the heart. To be honest, genuine, and faithful to what we believe is truth.”

Love is Here was released on May 20, 2008, on the album “Over & Underneath.” They have an ambitious 2009 tour and I hope to catch them in Darlington, SC, if not before. Check out their website, purchase the cd, and plan a date to catch them live, you’ll be blessed.
