It's a Grand Ole Flag

-
"It's a Grand Ole Flag
It's a Happy Flyin' Flag
In the home of the brave and the dead......."
-
Yes, this is Eva's version of the song and it keeps going thru Patti's head, and because she shared it with me, through my head.
-
Happy 4th of July!
(Here's mom, by the way, I think it was '09?)
-
I love to hear little kids mess up song lyrics. The other day Eva was singing "When the Roll is Called up Yonder" but she sang it as "When the Lord is doing Laundry....."
-
But back to Independence day......

Happy Birthday, Steve and Carleen!
This weekend is both Steve and Carleen's birthdays so the Fourth of July weekend has always been a big party in our family. We used to always go tubing and camping in Bryson City, too. Here's a photo from the 4th of July around '95 I suppose.
-
This year we are having a quiet 4th, we're all split different directions. Lisa's busy, mom didn't want to come down because she just broke her foot, Nana's at the new nursing home, Steve and Carleen have lots of family birthday parties.

So I got to thinking about Fourth of July weekends in the past. And you know how everybody loves it when I bring up the past....
-
-
The was the fourth of July weekend back in 1990 at Riverbanks Zoo, we had just moved down here from Jersey.

4th of July weekend, hmmmm, 1996? Rene', you'll have to date this one. Rene' and her mom Pat were here. That's Nana in the white hat. David and Renee came down, too, because I remember us jumping in the back of the T-tiny white Ranger, going out to pick corn and filling the back of the truck up with corn. And here we, I mean, they are husking it all.

This must have been in '05 when Tommy discovered he likes babies. Eva was just 2 months old.

Could this be 2006? Connie, me, Tom, Debra and Jimmy, bunch-a wild ones. I think after that game we went to the Big Mo for their 4th of July Parade before the movies, anyone remember that? The Big Mo's parades are hilarious. All the parents and kids are welcome to get out there and march around, carry flags, bang on instruments, etc.

And this one must have been last year, 09. Marj can probably tell us based on her bathing suit.

We're having BBQ today - 2010 - and some baby back ribs. I hope you all have a great Independence weekend and get some well-earned rest.
-
Leave me a note - what are you doing today or this weekend?
