The Best Use of Your Vinegar(s)

PUCKER UP!

Have you ever seen so many kinds of vinegar in the grocery?? When I was a kid, the dark ages, there were two basic kinds: WHITE and CIDER. That's all we ever had at our house. I have five kinds in my kitchen right now: WHITE, CIDER, BALSAMIC, RICE WINE, RED WINE. Why? Because a recipe will call for one of them, so off I schlep to the store to add to my collection.

I thought I would share a couple of recipes using the good, plain, old-fashioned kinds. One you drink, one you don't. Try not to get them mixed up.

WINDOW CLEANER

Mix 1 - 2 Tbsp. vinegar and 3 - 8 Tbsp. ammonia in a quart of water. Fill a clean, empty spray bottle and have fun. Not that I find washing windows fun, as you might guess if you were staring out the window by the computer. No one has had fun with it for a while.

HELEN McLOUD'S TONIC

I'm not kidding here. The recipe for this concoction was given to me by my 98-year old friend. Or, as she would put it, 98 1/2 years old. She will turn 99 right before Christmas. Once she hit 93, she started adding in the half years to her age. I guess you are entitled to be that specific when you are approaching 100. She drinks 6 ounces of this every single day of her life, first thing in the morning. I tried this for a couple of years, but, let's face it, Helen is a stronger woman than I am.

1 large can of apple juice (pure juice, not juice drink)
1 large can of grape juice (pure juice, not juice drink)
1 cup apple cider vinegar (be thankful it is this kind and not the white!)
6 cups water

...and one more thing......
uh, I'll get back to you when I remember it.

I don't even do my own! I think someone should invent windows that don't need washing. All you creatie people out there, get right on that, OK?
