It's Friday, but Sunday's A-Comin' ~ Flashback Friday

Mark 15: 33,34: “And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”

The title above is the title of a sermon by Dr. W. Jack Hudson at Northside Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC, April 22, 1984. I heard it live and have heard it repeatedly by tape since then & again in my head almost every Friday, definitely every Easter Friday.

The Friday Christ died was bleak, dark, and humanly hopeless. Hearts were downcast and burdened. Max Lucado describes it this way: “death seemed final; life seemed futile.” The disciples were confused.  It seemed to be the end.

But it wasn't.  It was the beginning.....

Everything would change in just a few days.  Christ rose from the dead, revealed himself still alive to how many people, was it 300?  He changed everything.  He came that we might have life.  So while it seemed hopeless on that Friday, Sunday was the real kicker, it absolutely changed everything for the disciples - for me and you, too.  And that's why so many years ago Dr. Hudson would call out from the pulpit "It's Friday!" and he'd slam his fist on the pulpit, wipe a tear from his face and quietly, encouragingly, LOVINGLY, gently offer, "... but Sunday's A'Comin'."

Sunday has come for Dr. Hudson, he is with Jesus now and I so firmly believe that.  Sunday has come for a lot of people I love.  The ultimate Sunday - Jesus' return - hasn't come yet.  (Read all about it here.)

During these bleak moments in our lives, we must remember that “Sunday’s a Comin’!!” I can hear Dr. Hudson yell that out of the pulpit, oh how it excited him! “Sunday’s A-Comin!!!!” Hang in there! Life is NOT futile and death most certainly is NOT final.

This earth groans in pain in right now. We have an expectant pain, but we know that the day’s coming when all will be well.
If you are experiencing a dark moment in life, let me remind you, and I wish you could hear Dr. Hudson’s voice on this: “its Friday…. but Sunday’s a-comin’!!”
