My Favorite Macaroni and Cheese

Golden Mac/Cheese

 My apologies to the creator of this recipe.  I can't remember where I found it.

To make this a main dish, stir in chopped cooked ham before baking, then sprinkle the top with chopped cooked bacon before serving.

1 8 oz. pack macaroni (about 2 c uncooked mac)
2 c milk
1/4 c flour
1 tsp onion salt
2 10 oz blocks sharp cheddar cheese, shredded (used Kraft Cracker Barrel Sharp Cheese)
1 c soft breadcrumbs (4 slices crusts removed)
1/4 c butter, melted

Cook macaroni, drain.  Set aside.  Place milk, flour and onion salt in a quart jar, cover tightly and shake vigorously one minute.

Stir together flour mixture, 3 1/2 c cheese, and macaroni.

Pour mac mix into a lightly greased 13x9 baking dish or 2 11in oval baking dishes.  Sprinkle evenly with breadcrumbs and remaining 1 c. cheese, drizzle evenly with melted butter.  Bake at 350 for 45 min.
