I just spent a couple days at the shore with my seven year old granddaughter and her baby, Olivia, who is astonishingly quiet.
So my granddaughter was out deep riding the waves with her aunts and uncles while I sat next to her mother in the surf. Soon my granddaughter approached us, coughing and sputtering. She sat beside us and put her head in her hands with great show.
"What's wrong?" asked her mother.
"I sunk."
"You SUNK? What do you mean??"
"I sunk to the bottom of the sea."
I think my granddaughter is going to make a fine writer. A very fine writer.
