Twinkie Pudding Cake, Tasty Tuesday

Look.  Here's the deal.  (do I sound like Obama?)
I meant to post this recipe months ago, but procrastinated in my usual fashion.
Also in usual fashion, my idea became useless due to powers beyond my control, like the Twinkies makers going bankrupt. Who saw that coming?

So..... I found this Twinkie plastic container in a store called All Sauced Up in Gatlinburg, TN.

I discovered it fresh on the heels of the Hostess Company's closure news coverage.  I was still grieving, in fact.

Then I saw this container and was doubly grieved.  What an awesome snack container.
And now he's out of a job, too.

But anyway, if you can still find Twinkies, get as many as possible and throw them in your freezer to eat sell later.  But more importantly, snatch them up so you can make this fantastic cake.

Twinkie Pudding Cake

1 3-3/4oz. pkg. vanilla instant pudding
2 cups milk
1 pkg. Twinkies
1 8oz. pkg. chocolate heath bars, crushed.  I know, right -- where can you get Heath bars now, too?
1 4oz. Cool Whip

Mix pudding as directed, set aside.  Slice Twinkies in half length wise and line a 9x13 pan with bottom half of Twinkies, cream side up.  Sprinkle half of crushed Heath bars over Twinkies.  Pour on pudding.  Arrange top halves of Twinkies on pudding, cream side down.  Spread on Cool Whip.  Sprinkle remaining candy on top.
Chill 2 hours.
Enjoy.

PS.  Since Twinkies and Heath bars are both difficult to find, experiment with substitutes and let me know how it goes.  I'm thinking maybe Swiss Cake Rolls and vanilla kit kats.  Or maybe Butterscotch Krimpets with butterscotch chips.
