Holly Williams: Here With Me

Not sure why or how, but I've totally missed Holly Williams on the music scene. Someone somewhere recommended her album Here With Me and so I checked her out online and now I'm hooked. She's got the smoky, husky voice with the soft, soulful accompaniment that I typically like best. (think: Diane Birch, Madeleine Peyroux, Norah Jones, Tracy Chapman)

Holly Williams began composing music when she was 8 years old. Right from the beginning, her lyrics were soulful and beyond her years. Upon turning 18, Holly gave herself one year to pursue her dream of making music for a living, booking shows for herself mostly around Nashville. Three years later Holly went to Los Angeles briefly to work on her songwriting skills and learn the piano. She then went on tour in Europe with Ron Sexsmith and thus began five years of touring with many artists, including John Mellencamp and Keith Urban.

Holly signed her first record deal in '04 and released The Ones We Never Knew. A devastating car accident that almost killed her brought her to write my personal favorite "Without Jesus Here with Me" and that led to her '09 release of the album Here With Me.

Holly Williams also works in the fashion industry with her high-end clothing boutiques in Nashville. Fashion and design have always been a love of hers, but music "is and will always be" her first love. She says, "When it's in the blood, you can't help it."

In the blood? That's right, Holly's father is Hank Williams, Jr.

I received nothing for this review. I'm just spreading good news.
